Dr. Al Kurose was one of the founders of Coastal Medical in 1995 and practiced primary care internal medicine for 20 years.  He has been President and CEO since 2008 and has been a driving force behind Coastal Medical’s transition to accountable care.

Meryl Moss, MPA, EMHL, serves as Chief Operating Officer of Coastal Medical, a primary care driven Accountable Care Organization.  With 25-years of healthcare experience, Moss provides the insight and leadership necessary to continually explore new ways to deliver high quality, cost effective, patient centered care to 120,000 patients in 20 medical offices across Rhode Island.

Edward McGookin, MD, MHCDS, FAAP, Chief Medical Officer

Edward McGookin, MD, MHCDS, FAAP, is the Chief Medical Officer of Coastal Medical.  Coastal provides care to over 120,000 patients in 20 medical offices across Rhode Island, and is at the forefront of work on healthcare delivery system transformation and payment reform both locally and nationally.  In his CMO role, Dr. McGookin is responsible for the oversight of clinical activities at Coastal Medical.

Steven Kempner, MD, Senior Medical Director

Dr. Steven M. Kempner was born in Rockaway, Queens, New York, and attended public schools in New York State for his entire education.  He graduated from Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, New York, and immediately attended the State University of New York at Binghamton (now the Binghamton University), graduating in 1974 with honors and receiving the Martin S. Paul award for excellence in chemistry.

David L. Fried, MD, FACP, Board Chair

Dr. Fried is a board certified practicing internist and Chair of the Board of Directors of Coastal Medical, an organization which he cofounded in 1995. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Medicine at Brown University and Medical Director at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. He serves as Medical Director of Omega Medical Research, Inc., where he has acted as the Chief Principal Investigator on over 300 clinical trials. Dr. Fried obtained his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at Rhode Island Hospital in the Brown University Affiliated Program in Internal Medicine.
