Family Medicine
Family medicine (FM) is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. It is a division of primary care that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, sexes, diseases, and parts of the body. The aim of family medicine is to provide personal, comprehensive and continuing care for the individual in the context of the family and the community. Family Medicine is also referred to as “general practice,” emphasizing its holistic nature as well as its roots in the family.
When a patient selects a Coastal practice, he or she gains access to a Patient Centered Medical Home with cutting edge medical knowledge and capabilities and improved access to care through our Weekend Sick Visit Appointments. Our practices are now paperless and utilize an electronic medical record to provide improvements in quality and access to care.
We offer our patients a Patient Portal that provides up-to-date access to personal health information, lab results, appointment reminders and the ability to contact our offices via email.
After seeing the doctor for a complete evaluation, any necessary testing can be provided at our on-site Coastal laboratory, or referral can be made to the Coastal Bone Densitometry and Imaging center. Cardiac testing can be arranged with the Coastal Cardiac Testing Program, pulmonary evaluation with our Pulmonary Office, and sleep testing can be provided at one of our three Sleep Lab locations.
